Retrofit MVHR Installation

Take a look at one of our recent MVHR installations carried out in Aberdeenshire.

We have recently just completed a first fix installation in a retrofit property near Laurencekirk. The customer first contacted us because they had a growing concern with the installation they had fitted from a tradesman claiming he knew about MVHR systems. They had started to lose faith in the benefits of MVHR however they put in a lot of time, effort and money in to getting the property spray insulated and we wanted to help them understand the benefits of having a qualified installer fit the system for them and be able to explain what had gone wrong.

What we found during site visit:

  • The system had been installed without any planning which then meant a mix-match of ducting
  • The air flow requirements for rooms not taken into consideration which if left to carry out the install would have meant insufficient air flow
  • Splitter boxes and rigid ducting not being fixed down properly
  • Lack of plugs/bungs fitted to system leading to ingress of dust to the system prior to commissioning
  • Tradesman had stated that no drain was required to be fitted for the condensate drain of the unit and that he would fit a drip tray
  • Inlet and extract roof vents were less than 1 meter horizontally from each other

Unfortunately for this customer the only way to rectify the issues found was to completely start again. This in itself gave us as installers quite a few issues. The majority of plumbing and wiring had been completed leaving us less room than normally required to install a MVHR system but with careful consideration to this during the planning stage we managed to overcome. The customers were surprised to find that once the design was completed, we ended up with 2 times as much radial ducting as was previously installed again proving the lack of planning carried out on the first installation.

The system has now successfully been installed with all previous issues being resolved and the system now being fitted in compliance with building regulations Approved Document F and NHBC Chapter 8.3.

Take a look at some images from our installation. Below, you'll find some kind words from a happy customer.

After our electrician assured us he could install the MVHR system for us in the home we are refurbishing, it quickly became apparent he was not competent in this type of installation. We needed the experts.

We were recommended to SKV. As a new business this was clearly an initial concern, but once the guys Darren and John had visited to carry out the survey, our mind was put at rest.

The communication was great, and they quickly scheduled the works to remove the“attempted install” by our electrician and then professionally installed the correct ventilation system for us.

It was a pleasure to see them working, from the smart van to the uniforms. They were totally professional, efficient and worked hard, cleaning as they progressed and discussing every aspect of the work. We would have no hesitation in recommending them for any job.
